The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is now screening passengers arriving from Wuhan, China to the United States for a new strain of the coronavirus which causes severe pneumonia.

• CDC will begin screening passengers arriving from Wuhan (WUH) for symptoms of the novel Coronavirus

• This includes passengers on nonstop flights from Wuhan, and connecting passengers whose travel started in Wuhan

• CDC screening will start at SFO, JFK, and LAX

• SFO and JFK are the only US airports with nonstop flights from Wuhan, where as LAX has a large number of connecting passengers

• Screening will happen inside the Customs facility at SFO

• SFO has three nonstop flights from Wuhan; on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays

• During the past 12 months, an average of 150 passengers arrived on the SFO-WUH nonstop flights

• Passengers from Wuhan that connected at another airport prior to arriving to SFO are also subject to screening

• The CDC recommends that travelers going to Wuhan should avoid animals, animal markets, and contact with sick people

• Passengers from Wuhan may take longer than normal to clear Customs & Immigration to accommodate the health screening process
